BACKGROUND INFORMATION Read this carefully. It may help you to answer some of the questions. Like most develo ped countries, Singa pore faces a low birth rate and a rapidly ageing population. Singapore takes in new immigrants to keep population steady. About 20,000 immigrants become new citizens every year. The people who take up citizenship should integrate into society, have the abi lities and skills to contribute to the economy and have the hearts in the right place. The immigration policy has resulted in Singaporeans having different opinions about the need for immigrants. Some Singaporeans have supported the policy because of the benefits while others have expressed concerns about the challenges caused by the influx of immigrants.
