In Source A, it states that ‘Qatar recognised the need for changes, because the working conditions were at times unacceptable and because of that laws were put in place.’ This implies that the working conditions in Qatar were less than ideal and harmful for migrant workers. 2 Not surprised due to Source C’s vested interest in portraying Qatar positively to the world. I am not surprised (A) as it is expected (LOR). It would be expected that the Qatari World Cup chief (WHO) spoke positively on their treatment of the migrant workers (WHAT) as it was in their best interest to show themselves as a nation that strove to continually improve the well being of its workers and thus depict Qatar as a caring and responsible host (WHY). This is evident by ‘changed perceptions of the Middle East region and transformed my country and allowed us to showcase the best in us,’ and ‘a workers' support insurance fund that will be looking into any matters relating to unfortunate deaths and this i nvaluable assistance will continue beyond the World Cup.’ (Evidence) As such, I am not surprised that Source A depicts itself in a good light as it was important for Qatar to improve its credibility on the world stage through examples of its positive effort for the migrant workers.
