2 1 5 women, 4 men, 3 girls and 2 boys attended a party. (a) 4 females and 2 males were chosen to play a game. Find the number of ways this can be done. [2] (b) At the end of the party, a photo was taken of the 14 people such that the adults stood in a row at the back while the children sat in a row in the front. Find the number of ways the photo can be taken such that no two people of the same gender was next to each other in each row. [2] 2 A triangle has sides of lengths 5 cm, 6 cm and 7 cm. Find the diameter of the inscribed circle giving your answer in exact form. [3] 3 (a) The fourth term of an arithmetic progression is 5. Given that the common difference is –3 and the sum of the first n terms is 28, find the value of n. [3] (b) The first three terms of a geometric progression are 4, u and 2 where u < 0. Find the sum to infinity of the series, giving your answer in the form 2ab+ where a and b are integers. [3] 4 Express 2 8 49 x− in ascending powers of x up to and including the x4 term and state the range of values of x for which the expansion is valid. [3] 5 It is given that 3xy = e2y. (a) Show that d d (2 1) yy x x y= − . [3] (b) Find the equation of the tangent to the curve at the point where y = 1. [3] 6 (a) Find ∫ 𝑥cos 𝑥𝑑𝑥. [2] (b) Hence, using the substitution 𝑢 = √𝑥, find ∫ 3 cos √𝑥𝑑𝑥. [3]
3 7 Find the volume generated when the area bounded by the curve y = 3tan 2x, the line x = 8 and the x-axis, is rotated through one revolution about the x-axis. Give your answer in the form (𝑎𝜋 + 𝑏𝜋2) cubic units where a and b are rational numbers. [4]
