3 Who should bear the responsibility to fight against diabetes in Singapore? BACKGROUND INFORMATION Read this carefully. It may help you to answer some of the questions. Singapore’s Health Ministry declared a war against diabetes in 2016 to rally a nation-wide effort to reduce the burden of diabetes on Singaporeans and ensure them healthy ageing. This effort is expected to cost the country more than S$1 billion a year. In Singapore, diabetes is a serious health concern, with over 400,000 Singaporeans living with the disease. One in three Singaporeans has a lifetime risk of getting diabetes and the number of those with diabetes is projected to reach one million by 2050, i f current trends continue. This national cris is calls for everyone to play its part in the country’s battle against diabetes. The government has even resorted to implementing the compulsory Nutri -Grade labelling scheme that requires freshly prepared drinks and beverages to display the Nutri-Grade labels both in their physical and online menus. The Nutri-Grade system comprises colour-coded grades from A to D, with D containing the highest sugar and/or saturated fat content. Drinks that are graded D are not allowed to be advertised.
