2 Index Number: ______ /10 Section A [10 marks] Carefully read the text below, consisting of 12 lines, about the significance and benefits of social touch. The first and last lines are correct. You should look at the poster on page 4, study the information carefully and plan your answer before writing. As the class V alues-in-Action (VIA) representative, you have been instructed by your P astoral Care Tutor (PCT) to plan the VIA programme for your class. She has given you a poster from Youth Corps Singapore and you are to choose a beneficiary to support so that the activities suggested can be conducted. Your PCT has asked you to give a speech to the class about volunteering with Youth Corps Singapore. In it, you should: • state your choice of beneficiary and the two suggested activities • explain how each of these two activities will benefit the chosen beneficiary • say why you think volunteering is important. You may add any other details you think will be helpful. Write your speech in clear, accurate English. Your tone should be persuasive and enthusiastic so that your PCT and classmates will consider your proposal favourably. You should use your own words as much as possible.

Through this regular senior befriending programme youth volunteers will engage seniors through various activities to meet their physical and socio- emotional needs. Possible activities: - Befriending of elderly - Engaging them in physical activity - Creating awareness to avoid cybercrime and scams Singapore Children’s Home Join us to experience the joy of touching a child’s life ! This programme allows youth volunteers to make a positive impact on the lives of the children from disadvantaged backgrounds by working with them. Possible activities: - Academic tutoring - Organising l eadership training for student leaders - Setting up of library corner Migrant Workers’ Centre Join us to integrate our migrant brothers into Singapore through various programmes! Youth volunteers will be able to interact closely with migrant workers to learn more about their lives and give back to those who have built our country. Possible activities: - Teaching of conversational English - Planning of orientation programmes for new migrant workers - Distribution of care packs to meet basic needs such as food and hygiene
