[5] Suggested Answer Success Criteria The message of the source is that immigrants can integrate well into Singapore society (A) and this is evident from the cartoon where the foreigner is able to use Singlish when she communicates with the baker (Ev) showing that she is well adjusted and has become familiar with the local norms of the country (Ex). This is evident in Source B “Although they are keen to get to know more Singaporeans, the foreign PMETs cited limited opportunities, existing networks and “reserved Singaporeans” as among the reasons they are unable to do so.” (Ev) This implies that the chances to interact with locals and integrate better into local culture are few and far between, preventing them from integrating well (Ex) It is also (CW) shown in Source C that the foreigner is unable to communicate effectively with his Singaporean neighbour when using Singlish (Ev) creating a very awkward and embarrassing situation (Ex). This means that immigrants face difficulties in trying to integrate into Singapore’s society.
