3 How are we responding to immigration? BACKGROUND INFORMATION Read this carefully. It may help you answer some of the questions. Immigration is a hot -button issue that brings both opportunities and challenges to countries. Some countries welcome immigrants to support population growth, address labour shortages, and enrich cultural diversity. For example, Singapore’s immigration poli cy attracts global talent to sustain economic growth and address the ageing population, while maintaining social stability through careful selection and integration measures.
