DUNMAN SECONDARY SCHOOL CANDIDATE NAME CLASS INDEX NUMBER PRELIMINARY EXAMINATION 2021 SECONDARY 4 EXPRESS/ 5 NORMAL (ACADEMIC) ENGLISH LANGUAGE 1128/01 23 August 2021 Paper 1 Writing 1 hour 50 minutes Additional Materials: Insert; Separate writing papers READ THESE INSTRUCTIONS FIRST Write your name, class and index number on all the work you submit. Write in dark blue or black pen on both sides of the paper. Do not use staples, paper clips, highlighters, glue or correction fluid. Answer Section A, Section B and one question from Section C. Section A is an insert. Write your answers for Section A on the spaces provided in the Insert. Write your answers for Sections B and C on the separate writing papers provided. At the end of the examination, fasten your work for securely. Submit all the sections separately. The number of marks is given in brackets [ ] at the head of each section. This document consists of 4 printed pages including the cover page.

Question 2 You should look at the information from the brochure on page 3 , study the information carefully and plan your answer before beginning to write. The Community Club (CC) in your neighbourhood is organising a programme during National Day for residents. T he community club is a common space for people to come together , connect residents, and gather feedback on national concerns and policies . Before making the final decision on the national day programme, the Projects Organiser has invited residents who would like to express their preference to write a letter to explain their views. Write a letter to the Projects Organiser to explain your views. In it you should: • thank the organiser for the opportunity and say which programme you have chosen • explain why it would be suitable for the residents in your neighbourhood • explain which of the activities would be enjoyable for the residents • say how this programme would make the National Day celebration memorable. You may add any other details you think will be helpful. Write your letter in clear, accurate English. Your tone should be polite and persuasive, to convince the Projects Organiser that this would be the most suitable activity for the residents in your neighbourhood. You should use your own words as much as possible.
