Source C: An extract from research done in the 21st century about Hitler. Some studies stress the crucial role that economic and political circumstances played during this time – which includes mass unemployment and economic hardship, the lack of support for democracy, the poor relations between established parties and the electorate, as well as weak state institutions – for the rise of the Nazi Party. The Nazi party grew without stopping. 3. Study Source C What is the message of the source? Explain your answer.
Source D: An American journalist writing in his book about Hitler. In fact, some of the first people who met him did take him quite seriously. A German who met Hitler said, "His speeches can really inspire loyalty." It was the same with the first American journalist to interview Hitler back in 1922. He was struck by Hitler's oratorical skills and his ability to whip people into a frenzy. But then after the Beer Hall Putsch where Hitler was sentenced to prison, a lot of people forgot about him right until the Great Depression hit and then suddenly the Nazi Party became a major contender for power. 4.
