2018 EOYANSWER SCHEME: FREE WRITINGYEAR 2 1. “Don’t judge a book by its cover.” Write about a time when you found this to be true. Question Type: Hybrid [Expository + Personal Recount] Requirement: a) Students should explain the meaning of the quote and discuss one or two point(s) why it is/is not advisable to judge a book by its cover. b) Students should recount an incident/event in which they find the quote relevant to that experience. c) Students may explain the quote at the beginning or at the end of his recount. d) Some degree of reflection may also be included in the essay. Meaning of Quote You shouldn't prejudge the worth or value of something by its outward appearance alone. Probable incidents: o Spending a lot of money on something expensive/attractive/branded and discovering that it is faulty. o Choosing a friend/leader based on his physical appearance (dressing, physical features) only to realise that he is not a true friend/does not possess the right qualities. o Being rude to/ignoring or mistreating someone based on his outward looks and realising that the person is someone of importance. 2. In what ways can the Internet be a dangerous place for teenagers? Question Type: Expository Requirement: a) Students should define/explain ‘a dangerous place’. b) Students should limit discussion of the danger of internet to ‘teenagers’. Including examples of young children and uninformed adults will be irrelevant. c) Students should provide at least 3 ways the Internet can endanger/causes harm to teenage users AND explain how it does so. The Internet The Internet can include social media (Instagram, Facebook, Linked, Twitter, Youtube) E-mail, online shopping platforms and service providers, gaming platforms, other websites. Possible Points o The Internet can be dangerous to teenagers by making them addicted to its content. o Teenagers can become victims of cyberbullying.

How can Values In Action (VIA) activities be beneficial to students? Question Type: Expository Requirement: a) Students should define/explain what VIA activities are. b) Students should provide at least 3 benefits of VIA activities. c) Benefits should comprise different aspects, e.g. social, emotional, health/physical for a person. d) Students should offer more than 1 activities in the essay to illustrate their points.
