This paper consists of 4 printed pages including the cover page Page 2 Answer Questions 1 and 2 and EITHER Question 3 OR Question 4 SECTION A Cluster 4 Fieldwork 1 After the extreme heatwave across Asia in April 2024, 6 students decided to undertake an investigation about Singaporeans’ responses to higher daytime temperatures. Their research question is – ‘Do higher daytime temperatures influence Singaporeans’ willingness to visit gardens and parks?’ To ensure their fieldwork is manageable, they decided to collect data on Singaporeans’ decision to visit an outdoor UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Singapore Botanic Gardens and an indoor shopping mall along Orchard Road, The Ion. They decided to conduct their surveys on a weekend in July at 5pm. At Site A, 3 students conducted the survey on the first 20 Singaporeans entering or leaving the Singapore Botanic Gardens. At Site B, 3 students conducted the survey on the first 20 Singaporeans entering or leaving the Ion mall. Resource 1 shows a heatmap downloaded from Strava, a fitness tracking application downloaded by the students. Resource 2 shows photographs of Site A and Site B where the students conducted their surveys. Resource 3 shows the findings of their investigation. Resource 4 is a commentary published by Channel NewsAsia, a Singapore multinational news channel on a hotter Singapore. (a) Suggest an appropriate hypothesis and explain the strengths of your hypothesis for this fieldwork. [4] (b) Describe the patterns of heat along Napier -Orchard area as shown in Resource 1. [4] (c) With reference to Resources 1 and 2, suggest how the students could minimise potential risks and impacts when visiting Sites A and B. [6] (d) Explain the strengths and weaknesses of the sampling method used by the students. [5] (e) With reference to Resource 3, construct a multiple bar graph to represent the respondents’ willingness to visit Site A and Site B. [5] (f) Explain what the students could have done to improve the reliability and accuracy of the data collected in Resource 3. [6] (g) Answer the research question and use information from Resources 1,2,3 and 4 to support your answer. [10]
This paper consists of 4 printed pages including the cover page Page 3 SECTION B Cluster 3 Sustainable Future and Climate Change 2 Resource 5 shows prevalence of breastfeeding amongst new mothers in Singapore. Resource 6 shows a photograph of a nursing room in a shopping centre in Singapore. Resource 7 shows data from a survey studying gender issues in the workplace in Singapore. (a) Using Resource 5, compare the patterns of breastfeeding between younger and older mothers. [4] (b) Suggest reasons why breastfeeding among new mothers in Singapore may decline 6 months after discharge as depicted in Resource 5. [6] (c) Using Resource 6, describe how nursing rooms in shopping centres may enhance the well-being of women. [4] (d) Cite evidence from Resource 7 to support the notion that there is gender discrimination in the workplace in Singapore. [4] (e) Explain how population trends may hinder progress towards sustainable development in high-income cities such as Singapore. [6] (f) Explain how gender equality might affect liveability in cities. [6]
