It may help you answer some of the questions. Artificial Intelligence (A .I.) refers to the use or study of machines that has some qualities that the human brain has, such as the ability to recognise or create images and learn from data supplied to them . A well-known example of A.I. is ChatGPT owned by the company OpenAI. The use of A.I. is becoming increasingly common because of the numerous benefits it brings about. U nlike humans, AI technology can process large amounts of data efficiently, which may make it better in performing certain tasks than people. This is exactly why some people are worried that A.I. could replace their jobs in the future. Some also worry about the role of A .I. in the arts industry. In the area of creativity and writing, overreliance on A.I. diminishes human qualities. Others worry about the negative impact s of A.I. if fallen into the wrong hands. Study the following sources to find out if we should be concerned about the rise of Artificial Intelligence. The company Microsoft chose to partner with Altman’s OpenAI to integrate its technology into Bing search. ChatGPT’s programming prowess has already made a mark on many developers. It already functions as a “co-pilot” for programmers. The CEO acknowledged that it would mean many people would lose their jobs but said it would represent an opportunity to come up with a better kind of job. “However, we do worry a lot about authoritarian governments developing artificial intelligence technology,” Altman said. Years before Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Russian President Vladimir Putin said whoever becomes the leader in A .I. technology “will be the ruler of the world.” Altman called the comments “chilling”. “Now that they’re getting good at writing computer code, models could be used for offensive cyberattacks,” he said. Source C: An excerpt from the website of Terranova Security, a company which specialises in providing cybersecurity training, October 2023. As A.I. quickly leaks into the business landscape, it has also been the subject of criticism. Recently, news reports have revealed that many global businesses are considering or have already implemented a ban on using ChatGPT and other A .I. applications within the workplace due to concerns over data privacy. But A.I. has become a powerful tool in the fight against cyber threats as it can help detect, analy se, and respond to malicious attacks faster. A .I. algorithms can recognise patterns that may be difficult for the human eye to spot, leading to more accurate detection of malicious activity. Staying ahead of cyber security threats can seem daunting. Combining A.I. with the human factor is key to staying secure and compliant in a digital world. Source D: Adapted from an article titled, “The impact of A.I. on Singaporean Journalists: Voices from the Frontlines,” published online, December 2022. “I’ve been a journalist for over 30 years,” but nothing compares to the impact A .I. has on our profession.” says John, a freelance journalist in Singapore. “ “I’m not comfortable with the idea of A.I. taking over our jobs. Journalism is a human endeavour, and it’s important for us to have a personal touch. A.I. may be able to mimic human writing, but it doesn’t have the same heart and soul. And I hope publishing companies recognise that,” said John. A.I. can write articles, editing and fact-checking with a level of accuracy and speed that far surpasses the human journalists. This has sparked a heated debate among Singaporean journalists. They argue that A.I. will bring benefits such as processing large data and identifying trends, while others fear that it could lead to mass unemployment and loss of creativity.

I don't think we should be too afraid to embrace these new tools and see how they can help us, rather than replace us. I think you can use A.I. as a very creative tool. For example, if I'm not strong in coming up with an idea or melody, or I'm trying to improve a melody, I could use a tool to help me overcome this challenge or when I am seeking creativity. It’s all about using it in the correct way so you can still have the human touch in music, which A.I. can't create. For the time being, all I'm trying to do is show how you could effectively use it to build your own songs and use it as a tool and not a weapon in the industry.
