Speech for ACS I Prelim Paper 2010 Good morning gentlemen, The die has been cast; we've all done our best for the O levels. Now it's time to relax! As you all know, Mr Tan has agreed to let us hold a class gathering. Since it's going to be our last, let's make it a blast! From the three options proposed, we've chosen to go with a barbecue at the East Coast Park (ECP): simply because it offers the most fun, is inexpensive to organise and very importantly, ECP is conveniently located. Firstly, at the beach, we can have all sorts of fun activities. We can have a swimming competition, fish, play volleyball or just laze about under the warm sun – breathing in the salty tinge of the sea breeze. Having a gathering at a restaurant or Simon's house won't provide us with the space and activities that we crave for. Secondly, having the barbecue is an inexpensive option. We can all chip in – $10 at most – to purchase food and drinks. Mr Tan has promised to take care of booking the pit. In contrast, having a buffet at a restaurant may set us back by at least $25. And will it be fair for us to impose on Simon's family to have to provide food and drinks for the 40 of us? Thirdly, we all know how convenient it is to go to ECP. We can arrange to meet at the school at 1pm and take bus service number 16 together. This way, no one will be lost. On the other hand, going to a restaurant requires some planning. Moreover, we might not be able to take a bus together from our school, as there isn’t one – well, as far as I know. As for Simon's house, unfortunately it’s situated somewhere far off the main road. Sorry Simon, don't mean to be rude here and thanks for the offer anyway. So gentlemen, this is our final class gathering; this is the last memory of our secondary school life; this is going to be the best gathering we'll ever have! Thank you and God bless. Timothy Tan (35) 4SA 16/6/10 Good morning class. Imagine: you’re crossing the road when a speeding car hit you. You’re lying on the road, covered in a pool of your own blood and in agonising pain. The nearest hospital was twenty minutes away and an ambulance would take that long just to reach the scene. Wouldn’t you wish that a person who knew First Aid was there with you? The training that he knew could just prolong your life just enough to get you to the hospital. If we go for the First Aid course, we can be that person, the person who would become the dying man’s saviour. I’m sure you would all agree that life is the most precious and fragile of things. During an emergency, it‘s what happens during those precious moments that would determine life or death. This First Aid course will provide us with the knowledge to give these dying people a fighting chance of survival, and they will be eternally grateful for that. It’s said that giving is better than receiving, and
