3 Answer all questions. 1 Cluster 1: GeographyinEverydayLife A group of students were tasked to carry out a tourism-related Geographical Investigation(GI). TheydecidedtoinvestigatetheBrasBasah, Bugisprecinct (BBB) inSingapore. One of the oldest neighbourhoods in Singapore, Bras Basahwasoneof themost ethnicallydiverse, with Jews, Europeans, Eurasians, Malays, Indians, Armenians and Chinese livingtogether. Bugis, while not as ethnically diverse, was abustlingplaceof trade, entertainmentandsmall businesses. Thesebeginningscontributetotheuniquevibeof theprecinct today. (a) During their research on BBB, the students found street maps (Fig. 1.1 in Insert) andtourist maps (Fig. 1.2inInsert). Whilethestreet mapsprovidegeneral information, thetourist map highlights specific places of interest in the area. Concurrently, duringtheirlessons, theylearnt of different personalitytypesof tourists. This made the students wonder if tourists’ personality type affect their preferenceswhen using guides like maps to get around. They decided to investigate this, guidedby the hypothesis ‘Venturers and near venturers prefer tousestreet mapsrather thantourist mapstoget aroundduringtheir trips’.
