2 9173/2023/Y5/Promo Examination/QP Answer Questions 1 and 2 and EITHER Question 3 OR Question 4 Section A Cluster 4 Fieldwork 1 A group of twenty 17 years-old Singapore students wanted to investigate whether the needs of the 2,000 elderly residents in a neighbourhood within Marine Parade were met. The elderly makes up 30% of the local population. Of the elderly residents , 60% were 60- 70 years, 35% were 71-80 years and 5% over 80 years. Females make up 60% of the elderly residents. The research question of the investigation was: “Are the needs of the elderly residents of the neighbourhood in Marine Parade met?” The students planned to carry out a questionnaire survey to assess the needs of 400 elderly residents. The students carried out the survey in the main shopping street for a period of three hours on a Wednesday morning. A face- to-face interview was then conducted with two willing elderly residents in the neighbourhood on the same day. Resource 1 shows the questionnaire used for the survey. Resource 2 shows the number of respondents by age group and gender. Resource 3 shows the responses to selected questions by the respondents. Resource 4 shows an excerpt of the interview with one of the elderly residents. Resource 5 shows the main shopping street where the students carried out the fieldwork.
