You should make reference to appropriate examples studied in the field or the classroom, even where such examples are not specifically requested by the question. Diagram and sketch maps should be drawn whenever they serve to illustrate an answer. You are reminded of the need for good English and clear presentation in your answers. 2 Section A Cluster 2 Fieldwork 1 Four Singapore students carried out an investigation on the needs of the elderly in the neighbourhood around their school. The hypothesis for their investigation was: ‘Healthcare is the most important need for the elderly in the neighbourhood.’ Based on secondary research, the students found out that 50% of the elderly population in the neighbourhood were aged between 71-80 years. The students conducted a survey with the elderly using a questionnaire. The survey was carried out at one site on a June afternoon. They surveyed 76 elderly people. Resource 1 shows the questionnaire the students used for their survey. Resource 2 shows selected results of the survey. Resource 3 shows a comparison of the needs of two different elderly age groups. (a) Explain why this hypothesis is appropriate for the investigation. [4] (b) Suggest the factors that the students could consider when choosing a suitable site to carry out the survey. [3] (c) Explain a suitable sampling method that the students can utilise to conduct the survey. [5] (d) With reference to Resource 1, explain two limitations of the questionnaire. [4] (e) Suggest how the students could minimise potential risks when conducting the survey in their neighbourhood. [4] (f) Using all the Resources, evaluate the usefulness of the students’ investigation in understanding needs of the elderly in their neighbourhood. [10]
