Second Minister for Education and Finance, Ms lndranee Rajah, said the social inequality is worse by technological advancements, but has caused larger income gaps. She said that Singapore need to build an enabling meritocracy that uplifts those at the bottom without limiting a growth of those at the top. While the country has work very hard to provide equal opportunities, those from the lower income and disadvantaged backgrounds might find it harder at access these opportunities. There is a need to improve access to this opportunities among the less advantaged to narrow the gaps so that all can rise together.
