The fact that the tutor was impressed that the practical experience helped in the first written assignment suggests that it was relevant and thus would encourage students to apply to Hope Farm.

5. Explain how the language used in Paragraph 1 emphasises how hot the weather was that day. Support your ideas with three details from the passage. (Lang for impact) [3] • Firstly, ‘fiercest day’ suggests the strong intensity of the heat and emphasises the scorching weather. •Secondly, ‘the sky was ironed flat’ suggests the sky has no unevenness by the presence of clouds. Thus, there were no clouds blocking out the sun’s heat. •Thirdly, ‘the clouds had fallen from the edges in faultless blue’ emphasises the heat of the sun as faultless blue is a vibrant colour signifying the brightness of the sun in the sky as all the clouds are absent.
