Speech 2016 O level Situational Writing – Exemplar Good afternoon gentlemen, This is our last gathering for the year and as you know, this has been a glorious year for Saints Boxing. We’ve won everything, breaking down barriers along the way. So, to cap off this magnificent year, I’ve decided to arrange a trip to Sentosa -- for a time of fun and games. It’ll be on 1st December. Knowing you adrenaline junkies crave excitement, we’ll first head off to the Mega Zip Adventure Park. This is where you guys can take on the obstacles courses, where, even our SAF trained soldiers have trouble completing. Well, I got to know this from our seniors who are serving NS now. This would be the perfect opportunity for everyone to work on teamwork. If you see someone struggling, encourage them to press on. Remember, our motto is "Nobody fights alone". Alternatively, for those that want something mellower, the bouncy castle is always available. After that, we’ll visit the “Images of Singapore” museum. From there we’ll learn how Singapore started off as a humble fishing village and survived the brutal Japanese occupation to become the bustling metropolis we know today. Knowing how some of you have been falling behind in your Social Studies, this would be a good chance for you to catch up, as everything you see will be coming up in next year’s syllabus. Next, we’ll visit “Sentosa Nature Discovery”. There, we can explore exotic flora and fauna native to Singapore. This activity allows us to connect with and to learn more about Mother Nature. And to finish off the day, we’ll make our way to the beach to swim, sunbathe or for some of you, just relax in the shade. We can also have some fun in the water and partake in a game of water-polo. Aren’t you excited? In all, this excursion is the perfect end to the year as we’ll have lots of fun and an enriching experience as well. I hope you’re all as excited as I am! I’ll text you guys on when and where to meet closer to the date. In the meantime, do inform your parents about this trip. Thank you. - Greetings - Establish context - Clear direction - Date given - Establishing warmth - Use of informal language for friendly tone - Humour Shows understanding Signposting to show flow of events Rhetorical Qn Look into fine details of execution (358 words) Written by: Joel Lim (4S2, 2018) Edited by: LSF
