2 /10 Section A [10 marks] Question 1 Carefully read the text below, consisting of 12 lines, about why we yawn. The first and last lines are correct. For eight of the lines, there is one grammatical error in each line. There are two more lines with no errors. If there is NO error in a line, put a tick (√) in the space provided. If the line is incorrect, circle the incorrect word and write the correct word in the space provided. The correct word you provide must not change the original meaning of the sentence. As part of Language Week celebrations, the English Department has invited Word Forward to conduct a half-day workshop for the Year 4 cohort next term. The workshop, held in school, aims to make the learning of English more engaging and enjoyable. Three possible activities were considered, and one has been selected based on student feedback. As Editor of the school ’s newsletter, you have been asked to write an article to be published in the next issue. Your article should promote the upcoming event and persuade students to participate actively in it. Your article for the school’s newsletter must include the following content: • a title to attract the readers’ attention • explain why Language Week is an important event • say which of the activities has been chosen and what the students said in their feedback on this activity • what the Year 4 students will gain from the activity. You may add any other details you think will be helpful. Write your article in clear, accurate English and in a persuasive and enthusiastic tone, to encourage students to participate in the activity.
