Write in dark blue or black pen on both sides of the paper. You may use a soft pencil for any diagrams, graphs or rough working. Do not use staples, paper clips, highlighters, glue or correction fluid. Section A Answer all questions. Section B Answer two questions, each from a different topic. The Insert contains all the Figures referred to in the question paper. Sketch maps and diagrams should be drawn wherever they serve to illustrate an answer. The world outline map may be annotated and handed in with relevant answers. You are reminded of the need for good English and clear presentation in your answers. You should make a reference to appropriate examples studied in the field or the classroom, even where the examples are not specifically requested by the question. You should allocate your time accordingly. The Globalisation of Economic Activity 1 Fig. 1 shows employment in the Ruhr region, German y between 1970 and 1999. (a) Describe the trends in employment in the different industrial activities shown in Fig. 1 and identify the processes that are occurring. [4] (b) Suggest reasons for the trends described in (a). [8] Population Issues and Challenges 2 Fig. 2 shows the average population values for the five continents in 1985 and 1995. (a) With reference to Fig. 2 and the Demographic Trans ition Model (DTM), suggest and explain the DTM stage that Asia and Africa would be in. [4] (b) Explain why the greatest declines in fertility rate s between 1985 and 1995 were in the continents of the less developed countries (LDCs). [8] Urban Issues and Challenges 3 Fig. 3 shows the distribution of squatter settleme nts in Lima in 2004. Lima is the capital of Peru, an LDC in Latin America. In 2004, the city’s population was 7.8 million. (a) Compare the location and extent of squatter settle ments in the districts named Metropolitan Lima and Cono Sur.
