Did Hitler come to power because of his own abilities? BACKGROUND INFORMATION Read this carefully. It may help you to answer some of the questions. Hitler was recognised as the Chancellor of Germany in January of 1933. From being a leader of an obscure and unpopular political party in the 1920’s, Hitler was able to turn his fortune around and rose himself and the Nazi Party to positions of power. From his ability to engage the masses, as well as the aftermath of the Great Depression, numerous factors have been cited to explain this phenomenal rise to prominence.
